CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - After playing from behind for most of the game, Queens beats Catawa 91-87 to claim a share of the regular season title in the South Atlantic Conference.
The 2 teams were tied at the half at 43, but a 10-0 Catawba run early in the second half would put the Indians up by double digits. Marcell Haskett had 9 of the 10 points in that run as he finished with a game high 27 points.
Queens would answer with a 9-0 run to get back in the game.
The back and forth battle would finally be settled late as Shaun Willett’s lay up with 18 seconds to play would give Queens their first lead since the 9:39 mark in the first half.
Three Queens players had at least 20 points.
Willett finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds, Daniel Carr had 21, and Van Turner Jr had 20. Kenny Dye also had 12 points.
The Royals are now 24-3 and 16-1 in SAC play. They can wrap up the out right regular season title with a win over Carson-Newman on Saturday.
Catawba is 19-6 and 12-5 in league play.
