South Pointe Defeats Ridge View To Advance in State Playoffs

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - South Pointe hosted Ridge View in the South Carolina 4A Upper State semifinals Monday night, defeating the Blazers 58-24 to advance to the Upper State championship for the first time since 2007-2008.

In the second half, South Pointe senior Scarlett Gilmore became the school’s first Lady Stallion to reach the 1,000 point mark. Gilmore, made a steal and finished with a layup in the 3rd quarter to put her at 1,001 career points.

Also joining the 1,000 point club during the game was junior Jamia Blake. Blake would also hit the 1,000 point mark in the 2nd half, driving the baseline for a layup in the 4th quarter on her way to a game-high 18 points.

Monday’s win over Ridge View sets up a rematch against its Region 3-4A rival, Westwood, which beat Lower Richland 63-47 to advance.

The Lady Stallions have faced off with the Redhawks twice this season, splitting the two games.

South Pointe and Westwood are scheduled to play Friday at 7:00 p.m.
