28-year-old killed in southwest Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - CMPD is currently investigating a homicide that occurred in southwest Charlotte near South Blvd.

Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at 1:30 a.m. early Sunday morning off of Minuet Ln. and during their response located the victim a short distance away on Seventy Seven Center Dr.

Adam Swan, a business owner near where the shooting happened, said he is concerned for his employees.

“Some of us do work late and maybe leave in pairs would be a good idea. There’s not a lot of people around here at night and now this event it makes a little more heightened sense of needing for security,” said Swan.

The victim was identified as Ervin Kenneth Steward, 28, and was transported to CMC where he was later pronounced deceased.

An initial investigation determined that the shooting had occurred on Minuet Ln. but witnesses had transported Steward to the location on Seventy Seven Center Dr. where police found him.

No suspects have been named or taken into custody at this time and this remains an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.
