Man facing theft charges after crashing truck through north Charlotte storefront

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - CMPD is investigating a case in north Charlotte in which an individual is believed to have driven a truck through the front of a store in order to gain entry to the property and commit larceny.

Matthew Hartsell, 41, has been connected with smashing a stolen truck from Huntersville through the front doors of the Dollar General located on Oakdale Rd early Saturday morning. Police responded to a service call involving this incident soon after but were unable to find the suspect when they arrived on the scene.

A short time later, a second call came in reporting a white truck that had crashed into a fence down the street on Oakdale Rd. Upon arriving at this scene, officers were able to locate the driver and identify him as the suspect in the previous wreck before placing him under arrest.

Hartsell has been charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of a stolen motor vehicle before being transferred to jail.
