CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are trying to identify the person who broke into the Elite Light and Energy business near the Druid Hills North community in Charlotte.

The incident happened in the late evening of February 6. Police say a man busted out a front glass window of the business.

“The suspect in this case threw a large rock through one of the front glasses,” explained Detective Brandon Miller with the CMPD Crime Stoppers.

Miller said the man then waited 10 to 15 minutes before entering the building.

“He actually waits to see if the police are going to respond immediately because the businesses’ alarm actually goes off,” said the detective.

Surveillance video from the business shows the man tiptoe into the building and walk behind a desk.

“We haven’t seen something like this in a while. Again, this guy was kind of cautious in what he did. He threw the glass through the window and then waited to see if we would respond,” said Miller.

Video footage shows the man taking a laptop and power supply before he leaves the building. It’s unclear why the man targeted this particular business. Miller thinks it may have been a crime of opportunity.

“He may have just been walking through, saw this business was closed and just decided, ‘hey I’m going to go in and see what’s in there’,” elaborated Miller.

The detective said the man appears to be in his 20s or 30s. Miller said the suspect was wearing a light colored hoodie, dark-colored pants and those Nike slide sandals.
