SPENCER, NC (WBTV) - Officials are asking for public assistance in finding a Spencer man who was last seen around 3:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon.
Late Monday night, the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for 66-year-old Richard Earl “Rick” Travis.
“Mr. Travis is a great guy, he’s always friendly, out and about, always talking, just a great individual," said friend and neighbor Greg Beam. “We just want to get him home safely to his wife.”
Travis was seen leaving a home on Sowers Ferry Road while wearing loose black running pants that were cut-off at the calf, a silver rain jacket, black gloves and dark running shoes. He also may be wearing a hat.
Travis is described as 6′0″ tall weighing 157 pounds with a slim build. He has gray hair and may be suffering from dementia or a cognitive impairment.
Numerous agencies from Spencer and outside of the county are actively searching for Travis. The unified command has sent over 30 missions to rescuers attempting to find Travis, officials say.
“Conditions are pretty rainy, fairly cold right now, the aerial surveillance we are using has been limited, but we are able to use some of the drones used by search and rescue teams," said Rowan County Emergency Services Director Chris Soliz. “We’re doing our very best and working very hard to find this individual and bring him home safely.”
Anyone with any information or who believes they have seen Travis is asked to call 911 immediately.
