CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - During NBA All-Star Weekend the Charlotte Hornets will have two of their own competing in State Farm All-Star Saturday. Kemba Walker will take part in the MTN DEW 3-Point Contest and Miles Bridges will participate in the AT&T Slam Dunk contest.
Hornets rookie Miles Bridges has been putting on a show for fans with some of the best dunks in the NBA this season, but now he’s ready to show off on an even bigger stage.
“I kind of figured I’d be in there because I had so many dunks. But yeah, I found out a week ago and my reaction – I was just excited. I watched the dunk contest since I was a little kid and I looked up to everyone in the dunk contest,” Bridges said.
But there’s one player Bridges remembers watching as a kid that sticks out more than the others - Vince Carter.
"That was one of the best contests ever. He definitely changed the game in terms of the dunk contest," Bridges said.
So what can you expect from Bridges? "You’re going to have to wait and see," Bridges says with a smile.
Regardless, Bridges already feels one step ahead of the competition getting to compete in the city he now calls home. "I feel like there will be a little bit of nerves, but once I throw the first dunk down I feel like I’ll be good after that," Bridges said. "I definitely feel like I have an advantage. There will be a lot of fans there - a lot of support. I’m used to the rim too so that’ll be good."
And for anyone who might want to attempt to throw one down like Miles - here’s his advice. “You just got to be creative. Don’t put limits on yourself. I dunked in 7th grade, so it might be easier for me than them, but keep working on it and you’ll be good,” Bridges said.
State Farm All-Star Saturday Night is set to start at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 16th.
