Search underway for Lancaster suspect wanted for murder

LANCASTER, SC (WBTV) - Lancaster Police are currently seeking a man who has been charged in the murder of a man at a residence located outside of historic downtown Lancaster.

Michael C. Chavis Jr., 29, has been charged with murder as well as possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Police have reported that several people were attending a party at a house on E. Arch St. on Saturday evening when Chavis came out of a room in the house and began firing on a man standing outside.

The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office identified the man who was shot as 26-year-old Jamal Gladden from Lancaster, SC.

Gladden was later found dead behind the residence and it is believed that Chavis has fled. Officials have warned the public that Chavis should be considered armed and dangerous.
