BLOWING ROCK, NC (WBTV) - Officials found and rescued a hiker Sunday afternoon who had been reported missing Saturday night in Blowing Rock.
According to officials, Charlotte resident Charles Sanady, 67, was found unharmed around noon Sunday during a comprehensive search of a ‘very rugged area’ that was located, ‘well off the trail’.
Sanaday was rescued around 5 p.m. and was uninjured but very tired.
The trail winds down the hillside into Caldwell County and the Johns River area and rescuers dealt with terrain and weather-related obstacles since helicopter extraction was not possible.
Officials say Sanady entered the trail around noon Saturday for a day hike.
When he didn’t return by early evening, Blowing Rock Emergency Services were notified and launched a search and recovery operation.
Multiple state and federal agencies were involved in the search for Sanady overnight and into the afternoon on Sunday.
