‘I no longer crave sugary items I would normally grab.’ #TeamNOSugar first-timer on taking control of her health.

Team No Sugar (Feb. 5, 2019)

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - We are more than a week into round two of TeamNOSugar 2019 and to mark the occasion – I have to introduce you to Shante Phillips. She’s new to TeamNOSugar and reached out to me on Twitter to share how she’s been able to take control of her life. “I set a goal to exercise 7 days a week, I never looked back,” she said.

Yes, you’re reading that right! She’s lost almost 25 pounds since October of last year. Getting her to share her story took some coaxing – she said she didn’t feel like she’d lost enough weight. I reminded her that people would be inspired right NOW by her story even though she has reached her ultimate goal.

So I was thrilled when she emailed me with her testimonial! Shante was very candid, and said she’d been heavy all her life and was even diagnosed with a rare form of high blood pressure called Idiopathic Intercranial Hypertension several years ago.

It wasn’t until the fall of 2018 when she tipped the scale at 310 pounds that she’d had enough. “I vowed that I would not go over but work to reduce the weight that I had gained,” she recalled.

So, she begin looking into TeamNOSugar. “I was very encouraged through the success stories,” she said. Shante has made real changes including lots of exercise and hitting her daily goal of 10,000 steps. “I work out at home and in the gym…through aerobics walking and free weights and at the gym I utilize that time for weight machines each day putting two and a half hours at least for workout time.”

She says she’s absolutely loves her new habits and added, “I drink water in accordance to my body weight [and] even more than that. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, nuts, flaxseed, raisins, salmon and drink protein shakes daily.”

More importantly, “I no longer crave sugary items or many other food items that I would normally grab, even on holidays I have so much control!” she proudly proclaimed. “If I don't feel like cooking for myself or creating a salad, I create a smoothie.”

Shante currently weighs 287 pounds – down 23 pounds -- and says she hasn’t gained any of it back.

For those hesitant about getting on board, she said, “give team no sugar a try! Stick with it, set reasonable goals, eat healthy, exercise, feel and look great!”
