Rowan Sheriff investigating vandalism at church prayer chapel

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - An investigation is underway after someone vandalized a prayer chapel at a Kannapolis church, and it’s not the first time this church has been the subject of an investigation.

According to the report, someone damaged the prayer chapel at Bethpage United Methodist Church on Fellowship Avenue in Kannapolis. The damage happened between 6:00 pm on Saturday and 1:30 pm on Monday.

Two windows were broken, a prayer box was torn apart, the stand from the prayer box was used to break windows, and other items were broken.

Deputies found a Skittles bag, protein bar, a mason jar containing an unknown liquid, and a cigarette at the scene.

Several weeks ago the Boy Scout hut at the church was broken into and several items were taken. At that time, Jason Sheets was charged.

Deputies found that Sheets had taken several items from a trailer used by the scouts, including tents, an axe, propane tanks, and a stove.

Those items were found in a makeshift camp site that Sheets had put together near a pond on the church property.

Sheets has not been charged in the latest case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rowan Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700.
