CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Cody Zeller went through five-on-five scrimmaging during Monday’s practice for the first time since fracturing his right hand on Dec. 31 vs Orlando.
“It felt good. We didn’t play for very long, but I felt really good because that’s all I’ve been able to do is run. I feel like I’m either training for the Tour de France or a marathon one or the other so I’m excited to get back out there,” Zeller said. “There’s been a lot of people that’s helped me get back to this point where I’m close to getting back so I’m very thankful from the start and to the whole training staff."
Zeller has been listed as probable for Tuesday’s home game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
“We’ll see how they thought I looked,” Zeller said. " I felt good today so we’ll see."
Zeller has also been wearing a padded glove on his right hand for protection that was provided by the Panthers.
“This is actually a glove from the Panthers so kind of our Charlotte partnership. I think it’s a wide receiver/tight end glove so I was wondering if Greg Olsen or someone wore this,” Zeller said.
The Hornets have went 8-8 since Zeller’s absence, but the positive in his absence has been letting other players get experience and develop.
“They kind of figured how to play without me and that makes us an even deeper team,” Zeller said. “The guys have played well, Biz and Billy especially."
