After six miscarriages, NC couple receives miracle in the middle of adoption process

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Charlotte family is celebrating a miracle after they experienced six miscarriages.

Kristen Soni and her husband Kaiten are counting their blessings after they found out they were pregnant last year. They weathered a number of setbacks including ten miscarriages in between their first and second daughters.

The Sonis say they were in the middle of the adoption process when they got the news they were pregnant again.

“You want so badly to start a family and so badly to add to the family and there was a lot of guilt that I felt through the process,” Kristen told WBTV. “What did I do wrong, what am I not doing that I should be doing? For us, our fertility journey was called unexplained. the doctors really couldn’t tell us why we were having miscarriages.”

Throughout the whole process, they’ve found comfort in talking about their history with miscarriages.

They say that it has allowed them to not only grow individually, but help other couples going through the same thing.

“When we took that home test, we actually just didn’t react. I think it was that wall and that barrier that we put on our hearts just because we didn’t want to experience loss again. And it took awhile to get excited. We were just guarding our hearts and our emotions.”

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, about one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage.

The Sonis went through two miscarriages before the birth of their first daughter back in 2014. When they started trying for a second baby they went through four more miscarriages.

“I remember saying to the person doing our ultrasound, I said not sure if you’ve looked at our history but we’ve been here a lot,” said Kristen. “I said please just shoot straight with us and I remember being on the table and just the first thing she said is we have a heartbeat. And we just, we cried.”

And on top of all that loss and pain, doctors couldn’t even explain why this was happening.

“It was unexplained. And so for that, it’s hard not to have an answer to really not know why,” said Kristen.

After years of setbacks, this Charlotte family has much to thankful for.
