SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Mister and Miss Livingstone College 2018-2019 are vying for the title Ebony HBCU Campus Queen and King for 2019 and are close to making history.

Reigning Miss Livingstone College, Shelby Hunt, and Mister Livingstone, Everett Ransom, are currently in the Top 10 and must remain there in order to be featured in Ebony magazine, a national preeminent magazine focusing on the African-American experience.

For the first time, Ebony is introducing the inaugural class of Ebony HBCU campus kings and Livingstone’s Ransom is currently in first place.

The Ebony HBCU Campus Queens franchise is one of the longest running editorial features in Ebony Magazine. The participants embody the determination, inner beauty and positive impact that Ebony admires in the next generation, according to its website.

The young women who participate are poised to affect great social change within the collegiate, civic, national and global communities. The young men demonstrate the ability to inspire, lead and give back to their communities, the site reads.

Hunt is currently in the Top 7. She is a senior biology major with 3.4 GPA. She aspires to become a pediatric oncologist with hopes of one day working for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She is a member of the Livingstone Student Government Association; Rotaract Club; NAACP; Concert Choir; the Pre-Alumni Council; and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Ransom is a senior majoring in education with a 3.0 GPA. He intends to earn his master’s in communications and broadcasting to eventually become a TV sports commentator. He is captain of the football team, and a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, the NAACP and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. He is also a Blue Bear Buddy (mentoring program) and a Bridge Program mentor.

Their current positions are not safe as the leaderboard changes daily. Voting doesn’t end until 11:59 a.m. on Jan. 31. Only those in the top 10 will be featured in the magazine.

“We’re reaching out to the Salisbury community for support to keep our contestants in the running for this national exposure that will also showcase the great city and county in which Livingstone College is located,” said Anthony Brown, director of student activities at Livingstone College.

“Please vote and encourage your friends, family and coworkers to also vote,” said Dr. Orlando Lewis, vice president of student affairs. “Salisbury is fortunate to have four educational institutions within its boundaries. This type of exposure with a magazine that has a circulation of more than 1.3 million will further enhance our branding and sustainability in this region.”

Voting is unlimited so each person can vote as many times as he/she likes. Vote for Shelby Hunt at www.ebony.com/campusqueens-2018/contestant/livingstone-college. Vote for Everett Ransom at www.ebony.com/campusqueens-2018/king/livingstone-college.
