CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - As a part of the Hornets 30th Anniversary celebration, the team honored Glen Rice during a special halftime ceremony during their game Saturday night versus the Suns.
“I’m very much overwhelmed,” Rice said. "It’s a huge honor and I can’t stress enough the appreciation that I have. I mean words, I can’t find the words to express my appreciation. I’m just very blessed.”
During the ceremony, Rice was recognized for all of his contributions to the Queen City during his time with the team and received a key to Buzz City. Former teammates Dell Curry and Muggsy Bogues also joined Rice on the court during halftime.
“They’ve always had my back, even through games they’ve had my back,” Rice said. "Tonight, I told them, I was like guys, emotionally I don’t know if I can hang on to it and both of them looked at me and said don’t worry about it we got you, and that put me in a comfort zone again.”
Rice is the team’s career leader in 3-point percentage and is the only Hornets player to play in three All-Star games.
“When I first got off the airplane coming here to Charlotte, the welcome and love and everything they showed me it almost had a sense that it was going to be something special. Not knowing it was going to turn out to be that way, but when I look back in hindsight it was the perfect storm," Rice said.
