Frigid cold temps stick around ahead of next large storm system

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - As advertised, a frigid cold day today with temperatures generally holding in the 30s all day long; 20s in the mountains. Temps will be back in the teens tonight and it will probably end up being a degree or two colder for most locations than last night due to less wind.

After the start again in the teens and single digits Tuesday morning, the afternoon will still be quite chilly, although a slight improvement over Monday with highs back into the 40s (30s in the mountains).

Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning we will be tracking some light freezing drizzle in the mountains and foothills. Right now amounts look to remain under a tenth of an inch so while you may wake up to a light glaze on the branches and elevated surfaces, we expect the roads to hold up just fine.

Then, later Wednesday into Thursday our next larger storm system arrives bringing largely rain, although there could be another quick shot of winter weather in the mountains early Thursday morning too.

We will then dry out for the late week, with another round of cold air setting in just in time for the upcoming weekend.

Stay warm!
