CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A woman is expected to be OK after she was shot in north Charlotte Friday afternoon, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police (CMPD).
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. on Statesville Avenue near Oaklawn Avenue just north of uptown. CMPD has not released many details, but said the female victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Several bullet holes could be seen in an SUV at the scene.
According to CMPD, the 19-year-old woman victim was in her vehicle stopped/parked on Fontana Avenue when she was shot one time.
She suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was taken by MEDIC to the hospital. The vehicle she was in was sprayed by multiple bullets.
Shortly after the shooting, officers located the suspect nearby on Oaklawn Avenue and made the arrest without incident.
Dondrae Lamar Stewart, 26, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, six counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling (vehicle), and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A firearm was recovered /seized during this investigation.
Detectives are still investigating this incident. At this time they are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting.
