Crime Stoppers: E-Z Mart Break-In

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A group of three people decided to start the new year off with a new crime in east Charlotte. Police say the group broke into the E-Z Mart on Monroe Road in the early morning hours of January 2nd.

The incident was captured on the store's surveillance cameras.

"Once they kick the door in two individuals come behind the register. They open up the cash register and take just a little bit of cash that was in there. We don't know how much cash was in there but we obviously see on video that they were able to get some sort of money out of it," explained Detective Brandon Miller with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The alarm went off as soon as the intruders entered the business. It didn't deter the suspects. The video shows two of the suspects going behind the cash register. A third person makes their way towards the coolers in the back of the store and grabs a case of beer. The suspects were in and out of the store within 40 seconds.

"They actually kinda planned this out pretty good -two behind the register, one guy grabs the beer and they're all out within a matter of seconds," explained Miller.

He said police think the suspects tried to break into another store just down the block after they left the E-Z Mart, but the group was unsuccessful.

Miller said the E-Z Mart owners had to repair th

"These locally-owned, privately-owned businesses, they're not like a big Family Dollar or 7-11 or soemthing like that. This is actually money out of their pocket where they have to replace the stolen merchandise, then make repairs to the business itself," said Miller.

Miller said the suspects are all medium build, but because of their clothing it has been hard to identify them.
