Milam was sentenced to death on June 6, 2010, according to Texas Department of Criminal Justice records. He was set to be executed Tuesday afternoon, according to a TDCJ spokesperson.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, citing new bite mark science and new laws on intellectual disability, the Texas Tribune reports.

Amora died in December 2008. She was bitten multiple times and struck with a hammer during an alleged exorcism Milam performed at his home with his then-girlfriend Jessica Carson.
