Energy company working to restore power to hundreds in NC mountains

LENOIR, NC (WBTV) -Line technicians with Blue Ridge Energy are currently working to restore power to hundreds of people who are experiencing outages following a bout of icy weather that hit the area overnight.

As of 2:30 p.m., the cooperative estimates that 104 members remain without power at that time. The majority of these outages are in Ashe County but members are also being affected in Wilkes, Alleghany, Watauga, Caldwell and Avery Counties as well.

During the height of the inclement weather, around 1,130 members were without power early Sunday morning. Technicians have worked throughout the night to restore power to these households and will continue to do so through the day.
