SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Police in Salisbury have issued an arrest warrant for a man believed to be harboring a 15-year-old runaway.
Keiry Nalleli Serrano was last seen Sunday evening at her home on Whisperwhood Drive in Salisbury. She is believed to be with her boyfriend, 22-year-old Eduardo Carlos Mendez.
Keiry’s mother, Blanca Serrano, said that she was taken by surprise when she found her daughter missing from her bedroom.
“In the morning the kids were going back to school, I went to go check on Keiry to see if she was there and she was gone,” said Serrano (Serrano spoke to WBTV in Spanish, her quotes have been translated into English).
Police say Mendez spoke to Serrano’s family on Monday and said he was heading to Virginia. He was asked to bring Keiry home, and said that he would, but neither have been seen since.
A warrant has now been issued against Mendez for felonious restraint and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Serrano is described as an Hispanic female, 5'7" tall and 195 lbs. with black hair and black eyes.
“I don’t know the truth. I don’t know what they are thinking,” said Serrano. She has not heard from her daughter since Monday.
The duo were last seen driving in a black 2003 Lexus with NC tag PJF-8984. Police released a photo of a car like the one Mendez was driving.
Because Keiry willingly left home with her boyfriend, this is not being considered a kidnapping case and an amber alert will not be issued.
Anyone who sees Serrano or Mendez or has information on their whereabouts should call Officer B. Kimball at 704-638-5333 or Detective B. Hall at 704-638-2149.
