Crime Stoppers: Boost Mobile robbery caught on tape

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - It’s been more than a month since the Boost Mobile store in the Independence Shopping Center was robbed at gunpoint in early December. Police are still trying to identify the man who committed the crime.

Surveillance video shows a man walking into the store. He acts like he wants to buy a phone, but his true intentions quickly become clear.

The video shows a man pulling a gun on the woman working in the store. In the video, the man can be heard demanding money from the cash register and threatening to shoot the employee.

"One thing about this video is we actually have audio of the suspect. Someone may recognize his voice and may be able to help us identify him," explained Detective Brandon Miller with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Miller said the man also told the employee not to run away and he asks her to turn her phone off.

WBTV spoke to that employee, Erica Anderson, Wednesday night.

"(To) just pull a gun on somebody that's just a random worker that's doing their job, you know, it's just crazy," said Anderson.

She said the Boost Mobile robbery was the second time she had been robbed at gunpoint while working in a mobile phone store. After this latest incident, she decided to leave her job.

"When I went back, it was still me in the store by myself at night so I just didn't feel safe," explained Anderson.

The mother of three said she is now starting her own cleaning business. She hopes the man who robbed the store will be brought to justice.

"You don't have to come in and rob a place just because you need money," stated Anderson.

The CMPD is offering a reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case.

"We're asking the public, please take a look at this video. If you recognize this gentleman, if not by his body build or his clothing, if you recognize him by his voice, please give us a call," said Miller.

He said the suspect is a short African-American man with a medium to stocky build. He was wearing all black clothing along with a neon traffic safety vest.
