Power outages after south Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A car struck a power pole causing several households to be without power in south Charlotte early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened near the intersection of South Boulevard and Sterling Drive.

A Pineville police officer attempted to pull a driver over on I-485 for careless and reckless driving. Police say the driver refused to pull over and traveled down South Boulevard, where he crashed into a light pole near Woodlawn Road.

The driver jumped and ran after crashing but was caught a shot time later.

Police say the driver was in possession of marijuana. “Felony warrants will be obtained shortly,” police say.

The driver’s name was not released.

Medic says the driver was seriously injured in the crash.

He faces numerous traffic violation charges as well as felony drug possession.

Duke Energy was on the scene to restore power to the homes in the area. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department was on the scene to assist with traffic.
