Person shot in east Charlotte dies at hospital 3 days later

Person hospitalized after east Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A person who was rushed to the hospital following a shooting in east Charlotte Sunday night died at the hospital on Wednesday.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the incident happened in the 2000 block of Pimpernel Road. Officers responded to the scene in reference to a call for assault with a deadly weapon around 9 p.m.

Police say one person, identified Wednesday as 22-year-old Subhi Elmasharawy, was found with a gunshot wound and taken to the hospital by MEDIC. Elmasharaway was pronounced dead at the hospital three days later.

On Thursday, homicide detectives charged 17-year-old Shawn Sanders with the murder of Subhi Elmasharawy.

Information gathered during the investigation led detectives to identify Sanders as a suspect in this case and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Detectives located Sanders Thursday morning and were able to take him into custody without incident.

Sanders was then taken to police headquarters where he was interviewed by homicide detectives.

At the conclusion of the interview, Sanders was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with first degree murder and first degree burglary.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.
