HUNTERSVILLE, NC (WBTV) - A driver and two dogs died after a two-vehicle crash in Huntersville Sunday afternoon. At least four others were injured in the crash.
According to the Huntersville Police Department, officers responded to the 10000 block of McCoy Road in reference to a reported traffic collision around 2 p.m.
Officers arrived on scene and saw two vehicles that had been involved in a crash and were heavily damaged.
Jonathan Bales, 16, was driving a black Honda Accord when he went off the road after making a turn. He over-corrected, causing his vehicle to spin out of control, officials say. The car crossed the center line and collided with a Jeep Patriot.
The driver of the Jeep, later identified as Lisa May Overfield, died while undergoing medical treatment at Atrium. She was airlifted following the crash.
The front passenger of the Jeep, Michael Croxton, had life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. A toddler in the Jeep was rushed into emergency surgery for serious injuries.
The driver and front seat passenger in the Honda were both transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte by Medic with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials say two dogs also died in the crash.
