JOHNSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE (WBTV) - A highway survey crew found badly decomposed human remains along Highway 321 just inside of Tennessee on Monday. Authorities have been trying to establish a positive identification since.
There are five open missing person cases in the county, including a Burke County man who was kidnapped in January and who authorities believe was beaten to death soon after in Tennessee. Six people have been charged with murder in the case.
The beating was captured on cell phone video. The body of the victim, Lamaar Lovii Edmondson, has not been found. It’s why authorities thought there was a chance the remains found Monday were his. But WBTV has been told that items found near the body may point in a different direction.
Lanisha Kincaid, Lovii’s mother, says the past year has been tough and he wants answers.
“I need to start healing,” she said on Thursday. She is hoping one of the suspects will start talking with investigators.
"It’s time,” she says.
The six people charged will have a court hearing in February when trial dates could be set.
