CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A student was arrested Wednesday after officials say a gun was found at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg School.

The incident happened at Hopewell High School. Principal Tracey Pickard said in a message sent to parents that the gun was found after a tip came in about the weapon on campus.

Good afternoon Hopewell families. This is your principal Tracey Pickard. Today at school, we received a tip that there was a student on our campus with a weapon. Our police officers were immediately notified and investigated the tip with school administration. A student was searched without incident and a weapon was located. The student has been charged by Huntersville PD. The student is also receiving school consequences in accordance with the CMS Student Code of Conduct. I ask that every parent and guardian have a conversation with your student about the importance of making sure they never have a weapon at school. If a student is aware of a weapon on our campus or any school campus, I ask that they tell a school employee immediately so an investigation can be completed. I appreciate your support of our school and our students.
