LANCASTER, SC (WBTV) - Deputies are investigating the death of a toddler who was transported from a home in Lancaster Tuesday afternoon.
The investigation began around 5:30 p.m. when emergency personnel were called to a home on 14th Street for reports of an unresponsive child.
According to the report, deputies were the first to arrive at the scene. They found a man carrying his 1-year-old son out of the home. The child was taken back inside and the deputies rendered aid until EMS arrived and took over.
The boy was then taken to Springs Memorial Hospital where he died about an hour later. The cause of death has not been released pending a scheduled autopsy.
A search warrant was conducted at the home to examine the circumstances around the child's death, officials said, but no information about what that search may have turned up has been made public.
“We are in the early stages of this investigation,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “A thorough investigation of the home and the facts and circumstances of this child’s death will be conducted, and the autopsy findings will be reviewed along with other evidence gathered in the case.”
Anyone with further information about the case should call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388, or contact Midlands Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC (888-274-6372).
