Huntersville Police Chief speaks on Walmart shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A person was shot and killed after a reported fight inside of a Walmart in Huntersville Monday evening.

Huntersville Police arrived in the 1000 block of Bryton Town Center Drive shortly after 6:30 p.m. after reports of gunshots inside the store. According to a statement from police, an officer already on the scene was in the parking lot and heard two to three gunshots.

Huntersville Police Chief Spruill stated the officer called for back-up at the store after hearing the gunshots.

The officer entered the store and came in contact with several individuals involved in the incident, officials said.

Police say an initial investigation revealed an altercation occurred between several people inside of the store. During the altercation, the group started to fight and shots were fired, according to the statement.

Man dead after shooting inside Walmart

Jalyn Domonique Craig, 19, was pronounced dead on the scene.

WBTV’s Ron Lee spoke to a man who was inside shopping at the time the shooting happened. The man said he heard at least two rounds and everybody inside the store started screaming and running.

SWAT officers were seen escorting family members from the shooting scene. Sources told WBTV that the SWAT officers were doing night training a mile away from the Huntersville Walmart when the shooting happened and responded to the scene within minutes.

Huntersville Police has identified everyone involved and will determine what, if any, charged will be filed.
