GRANITE FALLS, NC (WBTV) - Four people are now behind bars and two more being sought in connection with an armed robbery last week at the Tobacco to Go store in Granite Falls where crooks zip tied a store clerk’s hands and then wrapped her in tape.
“It’s awesome,” said Rebekah Ruetnik, the clerk who had been robbed. When she heard the news of the arrests Tuesday afternoon she broke down and cried and admitted she had been thinking the crooks might come back. “I have to admit to you, I was worried.”
Dennis Welch and Adrien Wilson were tracked to a motel in Charlotte. They have been charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and could face additional charges.
Two others, Jake and Taylor Patrie, a husband and wife, were arrested by Granite Falls Police in Alexander County Thursday night.
Police believe all four were in the motel but the Patries took off in the last day.
The Patries will be charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
“Feeling the heat,” said Granite Falls Police Chief Chris Jenkins. Jenkins credits social media with being a critical tool in this investigation. Not long after photos of persons of interest were posted, police were getting responses. Jenkins says the public stepped up and also says authorities in Charlotte did too. “CMPD did a great job,” he said.
As Welch and Wilson were taken to the magistrate, reporters asked them several questions, including whether they wanted to apologize to the victim. They stayed silent. Both are jailed under bonds of $150,000 each.
