Woman arrested, accused of having dead man’s stolen vehicle

BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A woman was charged with the possession of a vehicle that was stolen from a man whose body was found in Burke County Tuesday night.

According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found the dead body of 69-year-old Robert Young Biggerstaff in the 4700 block of Sugarloaf Road in Connelly Springs on Tuesday around 9 p.m.

Deputies initially responded to the call for a welfare check Tuesday night.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office opened a death investigation and is being assisted by the SBI.

At approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, officials arrested 52-year-old Cathy Michelle Chapman for felony possession of Robert Biggerstaff’s stolen vehicle.

Chapman was taken before a Burke County Magistrate and subsequently incarcerated in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $10,000 secured bond.

The death investigation is continuing, but no further information was released.
