GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) - A registered sex offender is back behind bars after investigators say he supervised neighborhood children at his Gaston County home.
Eric Svenson Spurling, 37, was convicted of crimes in Washington State that required him to register as a sex offender. As a condition of that registration, he was not allowed to supervise children alone.
According to a search warrant, Spurling hosted children at his home on Springbrook Circle in Gastonia on numerous occasions. The warrant states Spurling has a basketball court, trampoline, pool and “other toys seemingly to attract children to his residence.”
Neighbors told investigators Spurling had children sleep over in a camper in the back yard. He also reportedly told children he wanted them to change clothes at his house.
One neighbor told police Spurling touched her daughter while in the pool.
A search warrant was conducted at Spurling’s home. Investigators seized electronic storage devices including computers, phones and cameras.
The warrant states Spurling had a video recording surveillance system that records both outside and inside his home.
Spurling is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
No further information has been released.
