Freeze Watch expanding around the region through Sunday

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

• Freeze Warning for the mountains tonight

• High Wind Warning too

• Even colder Sunday night!

Let’s start with the mountains… It’s going to be cold tonight! Just the temperatures themselves are likely to fall below freezing. That’s why you could see your first freeze. Will there be frost? Likely, no! That’s because you also have high winds tonight. You don’t have frost if there's wind. Still, it is potentially a killing freeze, so if you want to save any plants for the winter, bring them in tonight. The next problem is the winds chill. That escalated quickly, huh? With temperatures in the 20s and wind gusts of 40-50mph, it could feel like it’s in the teens tonight.

For the rest of us, it will be chilly tonight but probably not freezing. Lows will fall to the upper 30s though. With plenty of sun, highs still only make it to the upper 50s on Sunday.

Sunday night will bring the possibility of more places falling below freezing. Many more counties will be added to the list under a Freeze Watch. However, that will be the coldest night of the week. After that overnight lows will be in the 40s and daytime highs will be in the 60s or 70s. Rain chances remain low all week.

Have a good Sunday!
