Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in fatal shooting in southwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police in Charlotte have charged a man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to a call on Friday evening regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. According to a release from CMPD, officers arrived at the scene of the crime around midnight in the 800 block of Clanton Road and located a male who had suffered a gunshot wound.

Kareem McLeod, 22, was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased, officials say.

On Tuesday, CMPD arrested Michael Lee Patrick, 27, and charged him with second-degree murder in McLeod’s death.

No possible motive has been released, and investigators have not said what evidence led to Patrick being named as a suspect.
