Deputies trying to identify man accused of inappropriate touching at Indian Trail Walmart

Man wanted for inappropriate touching at Indian Trail Walmart

INDIAN TRAIL, NC (WBTV) - Deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man accused of inappropriately touching two teenage girls at the Walmart in Indian Trail.

In a Facebook post, deputies ask that anyone who recognizes the man to come forward and contact investigators. The incident happened on September 21, according to the post.

Tony Underwood, a public information officer with the sheriff’s office, said the man stopped to speak with two young girls in the store but the conversation took a strange turn.

“He reached for I believe a necklace of one of the girls and his hand ended up in their chest area,” explained Underwood in a phone interview Wednesday night.

According to deputies, some people witnessed the incident and said something to the man. They said the man left the store in a motorized shopping cart and then drove off in a red Ford Ranger pickup truck. Underwood said the man has been spotted at the store before.

“From the comments we’ve seen is that there have been some flirtatious or overly flirtatious type conversations he’s had with shoppers and even I think employees there at the store,” explained the public information officer.

Some people who live in the area were surprised to hear about the incident.

“I’ve been living in this area about a year and I’ve never really noticed any issues with that so to hear about that is pretty surprising,” said shopper Carlee Phillips Wednesday night..

Underwood said it is not a given that the man will face criminal charges, but he reiterated that deputies want to find the individual so that they can get his side of the story before moving forward with the case.

If you know who the man is, please contact the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
