CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - One man was killed and a woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash in northwest Charlotte Wednesday morning.
The wreck happened just before 1:30 a.m. on the 9800 block of Bellhaven Boulevard. Police say a Kia Optima went off the right side of the road. The driver then over-corrected, causing the vehicle to go back across both lanes of traffic then down an embankment.
The Kia struck several trees before stopping, the report states.
The driver, 22-year-old Diondre Price, and a 22-year-old female passenger were both rushed to Carolinas Medical Center.
Price was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 2:05 a.m.
Investigators say it appears speed and alcohol both played a role in the crash, but it remains under investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the wreck is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Officer D.C. Buckely at 704-432-6802.
