ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Deputies are searching for a man accused of stabbing his girlfriend in China Grove late Sunday night.

Officials with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to the scene in the 100 block of Thunder Road and discovered a 28-year-old female suffering from several stab wounds including an injury to her neck.

The victim had her cellphone and cash taken before the man fled the scene. According to a release from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Michael Timothy Battle was identified as the suspect.

The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for several stab wounds, officials say. Detectives obtained warrants on Battle for assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, robbery with a dangerous weapon and second degree kidnapping.

Deputies say they were unable to locate the man but responded to a suspicious vehicle in a store parking lot and identified the driver as Michael Battle. He allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle with Cornelius Police in pursuit.

After a brief pursuit, Battle was able to elude arrest, officials say. Cornelius Police also obtained an additional arrest warrant on Battle who was added to Rowan County Sheriff’s Most Wanted List. He was last seen operating a blue 2002 Ford Explorer.
