CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - After racking up 8 tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, 2 quarterback hurries, and 2 interceptions in a win over Western Kentucky this past Saturday, Charlotte 49ers linebacker Juwan Foggie was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week.

He becomes the second 49er to earn C-USA Player of the Week honors this season joining kicker Jonathan Cruz who was named Special Teams Player of the Week for games played on September 10th.

The 2 picks tied a single game record for Charlotte. Add those 2 picks to 2 collected earlier in the season and now Foggie leads the nation in interceptions with 4.

Both of his interceptions led to touchdowns for Charlotte.

His first one came in the first quarter on Western’s first drive and led to a Benny LeMay 35 yard touchdown run. His second pick came in the third quarter and led to a Aaron McAllister 14 yard touchdown run. Charlotte would win the game 40-14 on homecoming.

His 4 interceptions have already tied the single season record for Charlotte and he very well could break the record as the Niners have 6 more games to play.

For the season, Foggie also has 31 tackles.

The Niners are currently 3-3 on the year and take on 3-3 Middle Tennessee on Saturday in Murfreesboro. It is a battle for 2nd place in the East Division of C-USA as both teams are 2-1 in league play.
