Tropical Storm Michael doesn’t spare Charlotte

Trees fall, flooding reported as Michael moves through Carolinas

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two drivers got the shock of their lives when a tree came crashing down onto Eastway Drive near the intersection of Woodland Drive. Charlotte Fire, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police and Medic teams arrived within minutes, and announced that the people involved will be okay.

Police officers blocked off the street for hours due to safety concerns. Not only was a tree in the middle of the roadway, one officer confirmed that a power line had fallen too, and that he could hear it sizzling.

A homeowner in the area told WBTV’s Bria Bell this wasn’t the first-time a tree had fallen at those crossroads as his house suffered a lot of damage back during Florence due to uprooted trees. He claims he previously made calls to the city about the suspect trees, but to no avail.

Over in uptown, flood waters caused troubles for one driver. Alan Gavilan, who was headed to the grocery store with his friend, traveled down North Tryon and before he knew it he was literally in troubled waters.

“I forgot my car is lowered by three or four inches so...learning lesson definitely,Gavilan.

Gavilan was able to pull his car out and luckily for him, nearby fire crews were able to check on the two as a precaution.
