CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The latest update has Michael showing significant progress to the northeast. The center is now about 20 miles S of Greensboro. It is racing to the NE at 23mph.
The heaviest rain is off to our northeast. The Triad and Triangle are now getting the worst of it. However, there are still showers in our area - and there could be a few more as some wrap around showers continue.
The winds have also picked up. A wind gust of 46mph was reported in Charlotte in the past hour. Many of us are seeing wind gusts of 30-40mph. With already saturated ground, that can certainly take down trees and power lines. The next few hours will likely bring the highest winds we've seen through the whole event.
It still looks like things will begin to improve toward the evening commute. The ride home will likely be better than the ride to work this morning.
