COLLETTESVILLE , NC (WBTV) - Heavy rain from Tropical Storm Michael caused creeks and streams to rise quickly in the mountains and foothills.
In Boone, several roads were shut down as a result.
A bridge in Valle Crucis was covered with water.
Off the mountain in the Collettesville area, Wilson Creek and the Johns River came out of their banks and inundated several roads and bridges. Brown Mountain Beach Road, Old Johns River Road, Valley View Circle and several more were impassable.
By mid-afternoon, the storm had passed and blue skies returned but the floodwaters kept rising due to runoff. Officials say it could be Friday afternoon before water levels recede enough to reopen all the roads. In Morganton a section of Bost Road was flooded as well.
Officials are urging people to wait until all the water is back to normal levels before crossing those now closed sections.
